The north Londoners had been without a permanent head coach since Antonio Conte’s departure in March.

Tottenham have announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new manager on a four-year deal. The 57-year-old Australian will become the first from his country to manage in the Premier League. He will begin his new job on July 1.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” read a statement from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy — everything that is important to our club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Postecoglou recently led Celtic to their eighth domestic treble with a 3-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup Final. Since joining the Scottish giants from Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos, he has won five of the six trophies available.

Born in Greece, Postecoglou grew up in Australia and later managed the Socceroos for four years. He was on a 12-month rolling contract at Celtic and is now free to move without the Scottish club owed any compensation.

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, ex-Spain coach Luis Enrique, and Feyenoord manager Arne Slot were also linked to the Tottenham managerial post after Antonio Conte’s exit in March.

Spurs didn’t pursue Nagelsmann in the end though. They had talks with Enrique, but nothing came of it. Slot, on the other hand, rejected an approach to sign a new deal at Feyenoord instead.
