The Magpies could add one of the best Bundesliga midfielders to their ranks this summer.
Dominik Szoboszlai has admitted he might leave RB Leipzig for a new club this summer amid interest from Newcastle.
Since joining RB Leipzig from Salzburg in the winter of 2020, Szoboszlai has established a reputation as one of the most promising Bundesliga midfielders.
This season, the Hungarian star made 31 appearances for the Roten Bullen as they clinched a third-place finish in the Bundesliga.
Speaking ahead of Leipzig’s upcoming DFB-Pokal final against Eintracht, Szoboszlai didn’t hide his motivation to join an elite side.
“If there is interest, I will consider it, not because I don’t have a good time in Leipzig, but because I have always been interested in challenges,” he told Cimlap.
“On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a coach who trusts me and teammates who accept me and also believe in me. No footballer can wish for more than that. This is quite an extra situation.
“At the same time, on the other side, there is the question, if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge?
“I’ve never been that type! I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club. However, I don’t want 15 years from now to look back on my career as if I didn’t get the most out of it.”
Newcastle are currently leading the race to sign Szoboszlai in the summer transfer window. Let’s see if the Magpies’ project under Eddie Howe can convince Szoboszlai to continue his career at St. James’ Park.
