The Black and Blues took home bragging rights in the opening fixture of their semi-final contest with local rivals AC Milan.

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi praised an ‘extraordinary’ opening half from his side on Wednesday, which he believes warranted more goals.

Inter took one giant step toward the Champions League final by beating AC Milan 2-0 in the first of their two-legged semi-final contest.

Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the opening 11 minutes to settle the game. Hakan Calhanoglu also hit the post, while Inter had a Lautaro Martinez penalty appeal overturned.

“We had an extraordinary first half, the scoreline was tighter than it should have been, with what we created,” Inzaghi said after the final whistle at San Siro.

“The guys were really great in managing such an emotional match. We have to continue like this. We know that we’re just one step away from a dream that we believed in from August until today.”

Inter and AC Milan will meet again next Tuesday for their second leg. The victor will head to the final to take on either Real Madrid or Manchester City, who are tied 1-1 on aggregate in their respective semi-final tie.
