The Norwegian made history in his latest Premier League game for Man City.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has shattered the record for the most goals scored by one player in a single Premier League campaign.

In City’s resounding 3-0 victory over West Ham on Wednesday, Haaland cemented his place in history by gracefully curling a shot past Lukasz Fabianski to bag his 35th goal of the 2022/23 season.

It saw him surpass Andy Cole and Alan Shearer’s joint-record tallies of 34 goals, which they achieved in the 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons respectively – back when the league had 42 games, not 38.

“A special night and special moment. Yeah, I’m really happy and proud,” Haaland told Sky Sports.

“Of course, I knew about it [the record]. Of course but we try to create the chances to score goals. It was not easy.”

‘We struggled a bit in the first half’

It took until the second half for City to take the lead against West Ham. Nathan Ake broke the deadlock four minutes after the break. Haaland followed suit with City’s second goal, before Phil Foden’s 85th-minute effort sealed a 3-0 victory.

“They came here to try to defend for 90 minutes,” Haaland added of the West Ham match.

“We struggled a bit in the first half but in the second half, Nath (Ake) scored, I scored and the last one Phil (Foden) of course scored so it was an important win.”

As a result of Wednesday’s victory, City have reclaimed the top spot in the Premier League from Arsenal, with a game in hand.
