A late equalizer from Roberto Firmino helped the Reds escape defeat on home soil.
Arsenal drew 2-2 with Liverpool in their Premier League game on Sunday. The Gunners failed to hold on to their two-goal lead as Manchester City inched closer to the top spot.
Anfield drama!
Arsenal started off as the better side as Liverpool struggled to find their feet early on. Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners ahead with a clever finish only eight minutes into the game.
Similar to their recent performances, Arsenal used their momentum to increase the pressure on Liverpool’s backline. Their efforts paid off when Gabriel Jesus headed Martinelli’s brilliant cross past Alisson Becker to double the visitors’ lead.
The course of the game changed, however, when Mohamed Salah brought the Reds back into the game later in the first period. The Egyptian striker nodded the ball home from close range after Jordan Henderson sent the ball to the far post with a clever touch.
The goal motivated Liverpool to push for the equalizer as soon as the second half started. The Reds came close to making it 2-2 in the 54th minute, but Salah missed a penalty as Arsenal remained ahead.
Both managers brought in more forwards for the final 20 minutes, with the likes of Leandro Trossard and Roberto Firmino coming off the bench.
Arsenal had their own fair share of serious chances, but it was Liverpool who managed to snatch the equalizer. A perfect cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold found the Brazilian striker, who headed it past Aaron Ramsdale to make it 2-2.
The Reds missed a few golden chances to complete their comeback in the dying minutes as Arsenal escaped Anfield with a point.
The draw ends Arsenal’s seven-game winning streak in the Premier League. Man City are now only six points behind the Gunners with a game at hand.
