The Manchester United legend has softened his stance on Arsenal’s chances of Premier League glory.
Arsenal will win the Premier League title if they beat Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday, according to Gary Neville.
Mikel Arteta’s side maintained their eight-point cushion over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League standings by beating Leeds United 4-1 at the weekend.
With nine games left, Arsenal are closer than ever to a first title since 2004. They next face a grueling Merseyside test – a fixture that could prove to be a game-changer.
“It’s 50-50,” Neville said on Sky Sports about the title battle between Arsenal and City, who have a game in hand.
“My mind was certain that Manchester City were going to win the league about six to eight weeks ago. I absolutely thought that by now Arsenal would have dropped lots of points and they would not be where they are. But now I think it’s 50-50.
“I’m not going to put everything on the Liverpool game, but our manager used to say if you won at Anfield at this time of year you would win the league.
“Quite often that proved to be the case. If Arsenal go to Anfield and win, I would say definitely it would be their title. The confidence from that would be unbelievable. Anfield is a terror of a place to go.”
Following the Liverpool trip, Arsenal will then play West Ham and Southampton before visiting City at the Etihad on April 26.
