Didier Deschamps’ men made a solid start to their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024.
France defeated Netherlands 4-0 in their Euro 2024 qualifier on Friday. A fantastic attacking display from the World Cup runner-ups helped Kylian Mbappe claim his first victory as France’s new captain.
Mbappe with a brace!
France stunned the visitors with a second-minute goal from Antoine Griezmann. The Atletico Madrid star received a precise assist from Mbappe before making it 1-0 for France with a perfect low shot.
Only six minutes later, Dayot Upamecano doubled France’s lead to put more pressure on Netherlands. The Oranje struggled to find their feet in the game as France continued their attacks.
It was then Mbappe’s turn to add his name to the scoreline. The Paris Saint-Germain superstar received a wonderful through ball from Aurélien Tchouaméni. He converted the one-on-one situation with a comfortable shot to make it 3-0 for his side.
Netherlands pushed hard to get back into the game at the beginning of the first half. However, Deschamps’ men held their opponents at bay through fast-paced counter-attacks.
Mbappe completed his incredible performance by scoring his second goal of the night in the 88th minute. An unstoppable low shot from behind the box put the icing on the cake for France as they secured a 4-0 win.
Netherlands had a chance to deny their opponents the clean sheet. However, Mike Maignan saved Memphis Depay’s penalty in the final minute of the game.
