The former Real Madrid star has become a cornerstone of Man Utd’s backline in the past two seasons.
Raphael Varane has compared Premier League football to Spain’s top flight.
Varane spent ten years at Real Madrid after his move from Lens in 2011. His incredible spell with the Blancos saw him claim four Champions League titles and three La Liga trophies.
However, the 29-year-old admits he’s experiencing a new level of competitiveness since joining Manchester United.
“The level of competitiveness in England is incredible,” the experienced forward told GQ France.
“We played the fifth in La Liga and the last in the Premier League the same week and frankly it’s hard to know what the most difficult match was.”
Man Utd defeated Real Betis with a 5-1 win on aggregate in Europa League’s last-16 round earlier this month. However, Southampton managed to hold them to a goalless draw in between those matches.
The Red Devils bounced back to reach the FA Cup semi-finals by cruising past Fulham just before the international break. Varane and co return to action when they take on Newcastle in a crucial league game on April 2.
Having failed to claim a victory in their last two Premier League matches, United will hope to return to winning ways at St. James’ Park.
