The Spurs boss’ future is in doubt after he lashed out against his players in a very public way.
Matt Doherty rates Antonio Conte as ‘one of the best managers of all time’ and hopes Tottenham keep him.
The 53-year-old Italian is under immense scrutiny following his post-match comments in last Saturday’s trip to Southampton, where Tottenham let slip a two-goal advantage to settle for a dismal 3-3 draw.
“I hope he stays for a long time at Tottenham,” Doherty, who left Spurs for Atletico Madrid in January, told reporters.
“He’s an unbelievable coach, an unbelievable manager. He won’t say anything in the press that he won’t say to his players, he’s completely honest with his players and has a passion for the whole club.
“I hope Tottenham stick by him and hold onto him for as long as possible, he’s one of the best managers of all time.”
In contrast, Doherty’s former Tottenham teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has asked Conte to ‘elaborate’ on his comments.
Doherty will captain the Republic of Ireland for Wednesday’s friendly against Latvia in Dublin.
