The former Red Devils captain gave a typically damning assessment of the team’s performance in the FA Cup victory over Fulham.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would’ve been ‘hugely disappointed’ with the team’s performance against Fulham, according to Roy Keane.

The EFL Cup winners progressed to the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday after coming from a goal down to beat Fulham 3-1 in a quarter-final contest.

However, Lady Luck was on their side, as Fulham lost Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian to red cards in the 72nd minute of the game, while 1-0 up.

“The priority was getting into the next round. I still think the manager will be hugely disappointed with what he saw,” Keane told ITV Sport.

“Of course, Fulham self-destructed but United were so poor, it was unbelievable.”

‘United have certainly had their fair share of luck’

Bruno Fernandes equalized three minutes later after Fulham went down to nine men through a penalty. Marcel Sabitzer put United in front by flicking in Luke Shaw’s low cross. Fernandes rounded off the 3-1 victory by scoring again in injury time.

Asked if United have been lucky in the FA Cup, Keane added: “It’s better to be lucky than good, sometimes.

“They’ve found their way in the previous games. Today, it was more self-destruction from Fulham, and the home draws have really helped them. You need luck in cup competitions. United have certainly had their fair share this season.

“It’s almost they’re turning up to this expecting ‘we’ve got quality players, we’re Man United we’re going to win football matches’.

“If they turn up with that attitude for the semi-final, Brighton will beat them, but you expect United to get a kick up the backside before then.”
