The Citizens have completed contract negotiations with Julian Alvarez.

Manchester City will reportedly announce a new contract for Julian Alvarez in the next few days.

The Citizens signed Alvarez on a €21.4m deal from River Plate in January 2022. The Argentine star stayed on loan at his former club before joining Pep Guardiola’s men last summer.

Alvarez’s impact on City’s attacking line, combined with his incredible World Cup campaign, has convinced City to extend his contract.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez will sign his new City contract next week. The Sky Sports journalist claims the new deal will extend Alvarez’s stay until 2028 with a “significant” pay raise.

City’s in-form attacking line has scored 66 goals in 26 Premier League games this season. However, having the best attacking line in the league hasn’t been enough to edge out leaders Arsenal.

Alvarez has registered ten goals and three assists across all competitions, finding a solid start to his City career despite Erling Haaland’s form.

The World Cup winner’s versatility has allowed Guardiola to use him in different attacking setups.

In cup games, Alvarez usually plays alongside Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden or Jack Grealish. However, the Spaniard prefers to use Alvarez as an attacking midfielder whenever Haaland starts for the Citizens.
