A controversial game saw the Gunners two more points in the Premier League title race.
Lee Mason won’t referee another game this weekend after making “significant errors” during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.
The Bees escaped the Emirates with a point after Ivan Toney’s equalizer nullified Leandro Trossard’s opener Arsenal. However, footage from the match showed Christian Norgaard was offside in the build-up to Brentford’s goal.
The VAR mistake triggered a reaction from Mikel Arteta after the game.
“The action when you get blocked when you are offside,” said the Arsenal manager. “You cannot block if you are offside.
“Looking at the images, you have to apply certain principles in defending and you do that by sticking to the rules and suddenly you apply different rules then you have to change your principles.
“So tell us before because then you don’t hold the line that high because you’re always going to have an advantage if you get blocked.”
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for referees in English football, later acknowledged the VAR officials made “significant errors” during the game.”
Arsenal will lock horns with Manchester City in a crucial match on Wednesday. The Gunners will then continue their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa three days later.
