The LaLiga leaders have opened up an 11-point lead in the title race after sealing an 11th straight victory at the weekend.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is adamant that more will come from his squad.
The Catalan giants have won all 11 of their games in 2023. Their latest victory came on Sunday away to Villarreal. Pedri’s 18th-minute strike sealed a 1-0 win, extending Barca’s lead over Real Madrid to 11 points.
However, as Real Madrid will play their game in hand at home to Elche on Wednesday, Xavi isn’t getting carried away.
“There are many points left to play for,” the 43-year-old told Movistar+.
“The run of form we are on is extraordinary, but we can still improve certain things. Villarreal wanted to have possession today, and they squeezed us. We missed a lot of final passes, and by doing so, we have ended up suffering.”
Defense is making a difference
Sunday’s 1-0 win at Villarreal was the seventh time Barcelona had won by a 1-0 scoreline this season in LaLiga. In fact, they’ve conceded just seven goals in 21 league games.
“The defensive side of things isn’t our main weapon, but it is bringing us results,” Xavi added. “The defense starts from Robert [Lewandowski], which is very noticeable.
“We leave here having given no big chances to Villarreal, and we leave very happy.”
Barcelona will next play Manchester United in the first leg of their Europa League knockout play-off tie. The game takes place at Camp Nou on Thursday.
