The Citizens reduced their gap to Arsenal to three points at the top of the Premier League table.

Manchester City defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in their Premier League game on Sunday. A fantastic display in the first half was enough to secure Citizens’ crucial win.

Massive win at Etihad!

The Citizens came into the game on the back of a hectic week that saw them come under investigation by the Premier League for alleged financial misconduct.

However, it didn’t take Pep Guardiola’s men too long to show they were in control. Only four minutes into the game, Rodri opened the scoring for the Citizens with a powerful header.

The Citizens continued dominating the game throughout the first half, doubling their lead in the 39th minute.

Following Calum Chambers’ untimely slip just in front of Villa’s box, Erling Haaland stole the ball and turned it into a perfect assist for Ilkay Gundogan.

Only six minutes later, City scored another one to find a perfect ending to the first period. Riyad Mahrez converted a penalty as City went ahead 3-0.

Villa went all-in with their attacks after the break. Following a few missed chances, Ollie Watkins scored for the guests. However, Unai Emery’s side weren’t able to build on their momentum as City retook control of the game. Emery brought in Philippe Coutinho and Matty Cash later on but couldn’t change the course of the game.

Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table shrinks to three points after City’s victory. The two sides will face off in a crucial league game on Wednesday.
