The Catalans winger limped off the pitch during his side’s La Liga win on Saturday.
Ousmane Dembele will stay out of action for a month after suffering a thigh injury in Barcelona’s victory over Girona.
Dembele picked up a knock in the 25th minute of the game, forcing Xavi to replace him with Pedri. The young midfielder went on to score Barca’s winning goal. But the Catalans will have to play without Dembele for a month.
“Tests carried out this evening on Ousmane Dembele have shown that he has a rectus femoris injury in his left thigh,” a club statement read.
“He is out and his recovery will determine his availability.”
Dembele’s improved fitness since the last season has made him a crucial part of Xavi’s plans at Barcelona. The Spanish manager will now have to deal with the winger’s fitness in his side’s upcoming games.
According to AS, Dembele will stay out of action for around four weeks. The 25-year-old will miss La Liga games against Real Betis, Sevilla, Villarreal, and Cadiz, as well as the first leg of Barcelona’s upcoming Europa League tie against Manchester United.
Xavi’s side will either have Dembele back for their second-leg game against Man Utd, or the France international returns in their La Liga match against Almeria on February 26.
