The Aston Villa keeper helped Argentina win the World Cup after a thrilling final against France.

Hugo Lloris has criticised Emiliano Martinez for his behaviour during Argentina’s win over France in the World Cup final.

Martinez’s performances were vital to Argentina’s triumph in the World Cup. The Aston Villa keeper won the tournament’s Golden Glove after a fantastic display in the final against France.

The 30-year-old prevented France from snatching a late match-winner through Randal Kolo Muani before saving a penalty against Kingsley Coman.

But Lloris believes the Argentine went too far with his mind games in the final.

“There are some things I can’t do. Making a fool of myself in goal, rattling my opponent and crossing the line… I just can’t do that,” the Tottenham keeper has told L’Equipe

“I’m too rational and honest a man to go that way. I don’t know how to win like that, although I didn’t really want to lose like that either.”

Lloris went on to admit Martinez’s crucial role in Argentina’s victory.

He added: “He was instrumental. Concerning his celebrations, he has been judged enough for that, no need to add anything more.

“During the shoot-out, he used every trick in the books to destabilise us.”
