Felix might leave Atletico to join a new club as soon as this winter.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has reacted to transfer reports about Joao Felix.

Felix has failed to live up to expectations since making a €126m move to Atletico in 2019. The Portuguese star has struggled to find his place in Simeone’s system, starting only five La Liga games so far this season.

Felix’s fantastic performances for Portugal in the World Cup have intensified rumours about his possible departure from Atletico.

Earlier this month, the Spanish giants’ chief executive Gil Marin confirmed the 23-year-old might leave Atletico this winter. But Simeone says Felix is an “important” part of his squad.

“What matters to me is the team and he is important to the team,” the Atletico Madrid boss told reporters.

“If he does for us what we saw in the World Cup, he will be very important. He has the talent and the team needs his qualities.

“Since I’ve been at the club, some differences exist between people and we can’t agree on everything, [but] I’ve looked for the best for the club until the last day, whether it’s me or the footballers. Everyone gives the maximum.”

Manchester United have emerged as Felix’s main suitors as they look to sign a new forward after Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit. But the Red Devils might face competition from Chelsea and Arsenal, who are keen to sign the Portugal international on a loan deal.
