The youngster has attracted interest from a host of elite sides after his World Cup displays for Netherlands.
PSV Eindhoven manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted Cody Gakpo might leave the club as soon as this January.
Gakpo was fundamental to Netherlands’ run to the World Cup quarter-finals. Having scored three goals in the group stage, the forward established himself as one of the best youngsters in the tournament.
Manchester United, who were heavily linked with Gakpo in the summer, are keen to make a bid for him this winter.
Last week, PSV’s director of football Marcel Brands, confirmed Gakpo could leave the club on a record-breaking transfer. Nistelrooy echoed those comments but wished he could have the forward until the end of the season.
“If I have the choice, I prefer [Gakpo to leave in] the summer, but it can also be now,” Nistelrooy said. “You just know there comes a time when you can’t say no.”
Gakpo has registered nine goals and 12 assists in his 14 league appearances for PSV so far this season. Nistelrooy’s men are three points behind Feyenoord, who lead the Eredivisie table after the first half of the campaign.
Let’s see if Man Utd can make their first January signing by finalizing a move for the 23-year-old.
