A host of young stars found the opportunity to show their qualities during the Qatar tournament.
Jurgen Klinsmann has praised Cody Gakpo and Jamal Musiala for their performances during the World Cup.
Gakpo was fundamental to Netherlands’ run to the quarter-finals. The PSV Eindhoven star scored three goals in his five World Cup displays before Argentina prevented his side from reaching the semi-finals.
Musiala had to leave the tournament even earlier. The Bayern Munich starlet’s displays were not enough for Germany to get past the group stage.
Speaking about Lionel Messi’s possible successors, Klinsmann said: “We talk about those big superstars towards the end of their career but also who is the next one taking over.
“Mbappe has the advantage because of his age.
“I was amazed about a lot of young players coming through, like [Cody] Gakpo from the Netherlands, or even with Germany going home early, there’s a special kid coming up with [Jamal] Musiala.”
Mbappe will have the chance to clinch his second World Cup title at the age of 23 this Sunday.
Having scored five goals for France so far in the tournament, the PSG star will play a crucial role in their attacking plans against Argentina.
