Morocco put up a fight but couldn’t stop the world champions from reaching the final again.
France defeated Morocco 2-0 in their World Cup semi-final game on Wednesday. The Blues managed to reach the final despite suffering a few defensive scares throughout the game.
Argentina to meet France in World Cup final!
France started the game by pushing for an early breakthrough. Their expected strategy paid off when Theo Hernandez put them ahead in the fifth minute.
Following a rebound shot from Kylian Mbappe, Hernandez nodded home from close range to clinch the much-needed opener for his side.
It took Morocco sometime before they pulled themselves together and attacked to find the equalizer.
But they came very close to scoring through Jawad El Yamiq’s shot just before the half-time whistle. However, France were lucky that his shot bounced off the post and didn’t find the back of the net.
Morocco then found a brilliant start to the second period, putting France under heavy pressure from both flanks.
However, impressive defending from the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Theo Hernandez didn’t allow the Atlas Lions to score the equalizer.
France, on the other hand, eagerly waited for counter-attacking chances through their fast players. They finally doubled their lead when Mbappe caused havoc in Morocco’s backline in the 79th minute.
The Paris Saint-Germain star’s shot was deflected but found Randal Kolo Muani on the far post. The Eintracht Frankfurt star then slotted the ball from close range, scoring just a minute after he came in for Ousmane Dembele.
Morocco then went all-in with their attacks in the final ten minutes but had no chance of getting behind France’s solid defensive line.
France will meet Argentina in the World Cup final on Sunday, while Morocco meet England in the Bronze medal game a day earlier.
