The Reds hoped to ease their injury crisis with the World Cup break, but they are already up for new problems.
Liverpool star Luis Diaz needs to undergo new tests after a failed bid to recover from his knee injury.
In October, Diaz picked up a knock in Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal. However, the Reds called him up for their preparation camp in Dubai ahead of the second half of the season.
The club confirmed Diaz was not able to train with the team in their two sessions in the new camp. The Colombian star will also stay on the sidelines when Jurgen Klopp’s men take on Lyon in a friendly game on Sunday.
“It’s all good with the boys who are here,” Klopp said. “What’s not good is we have to see with Lucho.
“He felt something and we need to have further assessment there, but apart from that they all look really, really good.”
Liverpool will face Lyon and AC Milan in two friendly games in Dubai. The Reds will then return to domestic action by playing against Manchester City in the EFL Cup round of 16 on December 22.
Klopp’s side will then come back to the Premier League to continue their league campaign with a match against Aston Villa.
