The Catalans are keen to add a new forward to their ranks as reports of Memphis Depay’s departure intensify.
Barcelona are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli as his long-term future remains uncertain.
Over the past year, the Brazil international has established himself as a key player in Mikel Arteta’s lineup.
The Gunners have pushed to tie Martinelli down to a new contract for the past couple of months. However, their negotiations haven’t been successful despite the Brazil international’s consistent form.
Martinelli secured a spot in Brazil’s squad for the lineup and has attracted interest from other clubs with his performances.
According to the Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona have emerged as potential suitors for the 21-year-old.
Martinelli is only 18 months away from running down his current Arsenal contract. In case Arsenal fail to reach an agreement with him ahead of the summer, Barcelona could have a real chance of securing his services.
Arsenal are reportedly negotiating a four-year deal with the Brazilian star. However, they haven’t been able to reach an agreement with Gabriel’s agents.
Barcelona’s interest could make it more difficult for Arsenal to convince Martinelli to stay at Emirates. However, the young striker has made it clear several times that his ultimate desire is to stay at his current club.
“I’m very happy at Arsenal,” he told reporters in November.
The Brazilian star added: “I’ve said it many times. This is my club. I love to be here. I love the city, I love the club, I love everything about Arsenal. So I want to stay, I’m very happy.”
