England failed to secure an early qualification to the next round after a conservative display against the USMNT.

England drew 0-0 against the USA in their World Cup match on Friday. Gareth Southgate’s side delivered an unimpressive performance but stayed at the top of the Group B table.

A complicated final day ahead of Group B!

The USMNT started the game by looking for a quick breakthrough while England were struggling to find their feet in the game.

Gregg Berhalter’s side failed to convert their few chances but remained as the better side throughout the first period. England rarely pushed forward with momentum, staying too cautious of the USA’s possible counterattacks.

The USMNT started the second half by putting England’s backline under pressure. The Three Lions won most of the midfield battles. But Southgate’s men couldn’t leave their half of the pitch for the first a good chunk of the second period.

As the game reached its final stages, however, the USMNT decreased their number of attacks significantly. England found a few chances to clinch a victory but eventually had to settle for a goalless draw.

The Three Lions lead the Group B table with four points, staying one point above Iran.

If England avoids defeat against Wales, Iran could qualify ahead of the USMNT by holding them to a draw on Tuesday.
