The Polish striker was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards against Osasuna last week.

Barcelona will lodge an appeal against Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for giving Robert Lewandowski an extended playing ban.

Lewandowski received two yellow cards in the first half of Barca’s 2-1 win over Osasuna last Tuesday.

RFEF has handed a three-game ban to the Polish striker. But Barca are not planning to accept the ruling without an appeal.

A club statement read: “FC Barcelona will put their case to the Appeals Committee in view of the three-game ban handed out to Robert Lewandowski by the Disciplinary Committee.

“The Polish striker received the suspension after being sent off for a second bookable offence in the 2-1 win over Osasuna in Pamplona in LaLiga.”

If RFEF rejects Barcelona’s appeal, Lewandowski will stay out of action for the club until mid-January. The former Bayern Munich star would miss games against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis, according to the initial ruling.

Lewandowski is La Liga’s top-scorer with 13 goals this season. A potential three-game ban could see other contenders close in on him on the league’s goalscoring charts.

Before all that, however, Lewandowski will captain Poland in the World Cup. The White and Reds must compete against Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Argentina in a bid to reach the World Cup’s last-16 round for the first time since 1986.
