Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-1 in their La Liga game on Sunday. Rodrygo scored another late goal as Blancos snatched a crucial home victory.
Benzema strikes again!
Real Madrid started the game on fire, forcing Barca to stay in their own half. Following a few missed chances, Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the hosts by converting a rebound in the 12th minute.
Barca tried to bounce back by finding a quick equalizer, but the Blancos remained in charge of the game. Federico Valverde then made it 2-0 for the hosts with a brilliant low shot from behind the box.
Barcelona pushed to get back into the game by sending more and more crosses toward Robert Lewandowski in the second period.
But Xavi’s side had to wait until the 83rd minute to score their first goal of the night. Following a brilliant solo move from Ansu Fati, the Spaniard provided an inch-perfect assist for Ferran Torres, who then nodded it home from close range.
Barca hoped to find a late equalizer, but then came Rodrygo with another stoppage-time goal. Eric Garcia stopped the Brazilian inside Barca’s box with a foul before converting the penalty with a powerful low shot.
The victory increases Real Madrid’s lead at the top of the table to three points. The Blancos will face Elche in their next league game on Wednesday.
