The club’s €75 million summer signing was sent off in his first competitive start at Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp intends to speak with Darwin Nunez after the striker’s dismissal in the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday.

The Uruguay international endured a frustrating home debut. None of his five shots found the target, and with over half an hour left, he saw red after head-butting Joachim Andersen upon being shoved by the Palace defender.

Four minutes after Nunez’s sending-off, however, Luis Diaz equalized to cancel out Wilfried Zaha’s first-half opener in the 61st minute and scrap a point for Liverpool at Anfield.

“He knows that now himself [that he made a mistake] and I will talk to him,” Klopp told Sky Sports about Nunez’s red card.

“It doesn’t make too much sense that I speak about it in public. It is absolutely not the reaction you want to see. Center halves in the Premier League will do that to him. He’s a handful himself and yeah, that’s not the reaction.”

Liverpool remain winless after two games in the Premier League, leaving the Reds 12th in the standings with just two points.

Klopp’s side return to action next Monday to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
