The Gunners manager stripped Aubameyang of his side’s captaincy before his mid-season transfer to Barcelona.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang deserves good reception if he returns to London to join Chelsea, according to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
The Spanish manager exiled Aubameyang from his Arsenal squad last season, which eventually led to his departure in January.
Amazon Prime’s new documentary ‘All or Nothing’ has shone a light on the situation, revealing new details about Aubameyang’s departure.
In the latest episode, Arteta slammed Aubameyang for returning late to Arsenal’s training. However, the Arsenal manager was reluctant to comment further on the incident on Friday.
“It’s a long time since that happened,” Arteta said ahead of his side’s upcoming match against Leicester City.
“I cannot go back each time there is a series. I have made my comments on that.
“What has been done has to defend the club and put it in the best possible position.”
Aubameyang has emerged among Chelsea‘s transfer targets this summer, with Arteta hoping the Gabonese star receives a warm welcome upon his possible return to London.
“Auba is an exceptional player,” Arteta added.
“He did so much for us. I hope he gets a good reception [if he comes back], because I think he deserves that.”
