The Reds claimed another pre-season win as their newly-arrived forward put on a show at Red Bull Arena.
Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig 5-0 in their pre-season friendly on Thursday.
Jurgen Klopp started the game with the three-man forward line of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Luis Dias.
Only eight minutes into the game, Salah opened the scoring for the Reds, converting a precise assist from Firmino. Liverpool continued their efforts to double their lead but had no luck in converting their chances.
Klopp went on to make four changes after the half-time whistle, with Darwin Nunez coming on to replace Firmino.
The Anfield new boy converted a penalty to celebrate his first Liverpool goal just three minutes into the second half. He then made it 3-0 for Liverpool by scoring another goal in the 51st minute.
Liverpool made seven more changes to their lineup after the hour-mark. But that didn’t stop Nunez from scoring two more goals in the 68th and 90th minutes, respectively.
The Reds started their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool. Criticism toward Nunez’s performance continued after the Reds bounced back from the defeat by beating Crystal Palace 2-0 on Friday.
Scoring a ‘Super Hat-trick’ in a pre-season friendly is not enough to make you a fan favourite at Anfield. But it will certainly provide Nunez with a much-needed morale boost as he heads toward his debut Premier League season.
