The Red Devils are considering the Ajax star as their top-priority signing in defence.
Ajax has asked Manchester United to improve their offer for Lisandro Martinez.
The Red Devils are competing against Arsenal in their bid to sign the Argentine star. Martinez has become a priority for the Red Devils as he can play both as a central defender and a full-back.
According to 90min, Ajax have rejected United’s second offer for Martinez. The Eredivisie champions reportedly want a €50m guaranteed fee plus add-ons for the 24-year-old.
Ajax have sent a similar message to clubs that are interested in signing their star winger Antony. The Dutch giants are demanding a fee of at least €70m and have remained firm on their position.
In case the negotiations with United drag on, Arsenal might intensify their efforts to hijack the deal from their Premier League rivals.
The Gunners have already submitted an official bid for Martinez, but United are still the front-runners to sign the Argentine.
Another stalled transfer has seen Frenkie de Jong find new suitors in the market. United were close to reaching an agreement with Barcelona over the Dutchman’s move two weeks ago.
However, Chelsea have joined the transfer race for the midfielder in recent days. According to Spanish sources, De Jong’s representatives are already negotiating with the player’s agent.
