The Reds have tied down Joe Gomez to a new contract ahead of the next season.

Liverpool have announced they have signed a new five-year deal with Joe Gomez.

The 25-year-old has struggled to get enough game time at Liverpool, with reports linking him with a move away from Anfield.

Newcastle and Aston Villa were Gomez’s main suitors in the transfer market. However, the England international has preferred to keep pushing for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s lineup.

“It’s obviously a special moment for me and my family,” Gomez told Liverpool’s official website.

“Another one that you dream of as a kid and one I don’t take for granted.

“It is an unbelievable place to be; in my eyes, probably one of the best – if not the best – clubs in the world at the minute. The opportunity to extend my stay here was an easy decision to make, really.

“I have been here quite a while now, but in the grand scheme of things I still feel young and the best years are ahead of me. I have got more to learn and the time to do that. I think I have the platform here to do it with the manager and the coaching staff around me and my teammates, to make sure the best years are ahead.”

Gomez made only four Premier League starts last season, staying behind Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joel Matip in the Reds’ pecking order.

However, Klopp has reportedly ensured Gomez that he has a special place in his plans for Liverpool’s backline. Let’s see if the English defender can find his place in Klopp’s lineup next season.
