Just one day after Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard’s departures were announced, Juan Mata has followed suit.
Manchester United have announced that Juan Mata will leave the club at the end of his contract this month.
The announcement pulls the curtain on Mata’s eight-year spell at Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old Spaniard becomes the third midfielder to leave the club as a free agent in two days after Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. Striker Edinson Cavani will also leave. Midfielder Nemanja Matic is expected to depart as well.
“Manchester United can confirm that Juan Mata will depart the club when his contract expires this summer,” read a club statement.
The club added: “Thank you for dedicating eight years of your career to United, Juan. Everyone at the club wishes you all the best for the future.”
Thank you for everything, @JuanMata8 — you'll be missed 🔴#MUFC

What was the Spaniard’s record at Man Utd?
In 285 appearances across all competitions, Mata supplied 51 goals and 47 assists for Manchester United.
The 2010 World Cup winner joined the Red Devils from Chelsea in January 2014 for a €38 million fee. He helped the club win the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League, and Community Shield.
But as the years rolled on, Mata’s game time decreased. This season, for instance, he made just 12 appearances, including seven in the Premier League, and only started four times.
His departure, therefore, was expected as Manchester United prepare for a fresh start under new manager Erik ten Hag for next season.
