Diego Carlos will leave Sevilla to join the Villa this summer.
Aston Villa have announced the signing of Diego Carlos from Sevilla amid interest from several other parties.
Carlos was among Newcastle’s top transfer targets last winter, but the Magpies failed to finalize his transfer.
Since then, Tottenham and Arsenal had entered the race for the highly-rated centre-back. However, Villa have beaten both of the north London giants, securing a move for the 29-year-old.
Villa’s official statement reads: “Aston Villa can confirm the club has reached an agreement with Sevilla FC for the transfer of Diego Carlos for an undisclosed fee.
“The player will travel to England in the next few hours to complete a medical and finalise personal terms.”
A statement from Sevilla adds: “Sevilla FC would like to thank the player for his work during all these years in Seville and wishes him the best of luck in his new journey.”
According to the Athletic, Villa will pay a £26m transfer fee for Carlos. The Midlands side have already secured their first three signings of the summer transfer window.
In addition to Carlos, Steven Gerrard’s side will have Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara in their ranks ahead of the next season. The club have also reached an agreement with Barcelona to make Phillippe Coutinho’s move permanent.
