The Blues had to train on Sunday following their unimpressive display in their latest Premier League showdown.

Thomas Tuchel insists he did not intend to punish Chelsea players by calling them in for training on their day off.

An underwhelming 2-2 draw against Wolves saw Chelsea remain winless for the third consecutive match. The Blues were 2-0 ahead until a quick comeback from their opponents changed the result in the last 12 minutes of the game.

Chelsea’s shaky performance convinced Tuchel to organize a training session on Sunday. The news broke out amid reports of unrest in the Blues’ dressing room.

However, Tuchel insists his decision was not made to punish Chelsea players.

He said: “We came in. We planned a free day, but after the disappointment it was not even to punish them.

“Maybe some felt like it was a punishment, but it wasn’t, because it was not the moment for a free day. I explained that it’s better to be together and talk about it than to go [away] and everyone has his own opinion and everybody has his own truth, and you have maybe more risks to be in fragments than to be here.”

The Blues boss later added that players had participated in a “very light” session on Sunday.

Chelsea must face Leeds United on Wednesday before meeting Liverpool in the FA Cup final three days later.
