Despite a crucial 2-1 win at the weekend, Mikel Arteta believes more goals were up for grabs.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah could’ve scored two goals against West Ham on Sunday, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

Defenders Rob Holding and Gabriel were on target to seal an important 2-1 win at the London Stadium. It wasn’t Arsenal’s best game, but it got the job done. It secured a third win in a row for the Gunners to strengthen their top-four hopes. With four games left this season, they hold a two-point advantage over Tottenham in fourth in the Premier League standings.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterward, Arteta acknowledged the team’s performance was sloppy but claimed they were clinical when it mattered.

The Arsenal coach also remarked on how Nketiah, who had four shots on goal, could’ve scored twice.

“We didn’t play so well. Today, we won ugly,” Arteta said.

“With the ball, we were really poor. We lacked composure, and dominance to play the game we wanted to play, but we found a way through set pieces, through defending extremely well, through not conceding anything apart from the goal.

“To make it sustainable, we have to play much better than we did against Chelsea and Manchester United, but today, we were clinical and really efficient when we were attacking their box.

“Eddie could’ve scored another two, but we didn’t generate the situations that we wanted, that’s for sure.”

Arsenal next face Leeds, a club Nketiah spent time on loan at in 2019/20, this Sunday in the Premier League.
