Chelsea have been in contract negotiations with Antonio Rudiger for the past few months. Following a short period of initial optimism, it soon became evident that the two parties would struggle to reach an agreement over the German defender’s wages.
According to the Athletic, Rudiger has made his decision to leave Chelsea next summer. The English outlet claims the 29-year-old will decide on his next club as soon as next week.
Chelsea offered a four-year contract worth £230,000-a-week, plus a signing on fee in February. However, the German international had reportedly received offers as high as £290,000 per week from other clubs.
In the past few months, multiple reports have emerged on Rudiger’s negotiations with different clubs.
Real Madrid have retained their interest in him, while Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich have also joined the race. However, most observers believe Real Madrid still have a better chance to sign Rudiger compared to their rivals.
English sources claim Rudiger’s priority was to stay at Chelsea, but the club’s last offer was still below his demands. We will most likely hear more about the experienced defender’s transfer in the coming weeks.
