An easy win against the Serie A leaders sees Inter continuing their dream of a domestic double.
Inter defeated AC Milan 3-0 in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie on Tuesday. After a goalless draw in the first game, the Nerazzurri bounced back with a brilliant performance to reach the tournament’s final.
Martinez steals the show at San Siro!
Inter shocked their opponents with an early goal from Lautaro Martinez in the fourth minute. Following Matteo Darmian’s low cross from the right side of the box, Lautaro Martinez smashed the ball home with a beautiful volley to put Inter ahead.
Milan tried to turn the game around by dominating the possession while hoping to create chances behind Inter’s compact backline. It seemed that the Rossoneri were getting closer to scoring the equalizer when Inter doubled their lead five minutes before the interval.
Following a perfect long pass from Joaquin Correa, Martinez completed his brace by converting a one-on-one against Mike Maignan.
Milan pushed hard to get back into the game in the second half. The Rossoneri thought they had made it 2-1 through Ismael Bennacer in the 67th minute. However, the referee disallowed their goal upon review by VAR.
Inter remained hopeful of hurting Milan on the counter-attacks, and they did it soon after their opponents went all-in with their attacks in the final ten minutes.
Robin Gosens made an immediate impact after emerging from the bench, putting the victory to bed for Inter by scoring their third goal of the night.
What’s next for Inter and AC Milan?
Inter will play in the Coppa Italia final against the winner of the tie between Juventus and Fiorentina. The Bianconeri go into the home match being 1-0 ahead on aggregate.
Before that battle, however, both sides have to return to league action, where they are competing in a close title race. Inter will host Roma in their next game while Milan meet Lazio.
