The Portuguese superstar lashed out at an Everton fan following United’s disappointing loss at Goodison Park.

Cristiano Ronaldo stormed off the pitch after his side’s 1-0 defeat against Everton on Saturday. The Manchester United star appeared to have an altercation with an Everton fan on his way out.

An hour later, a video went viral that showed Ronaldo smashing the fan’s phone. The 37-year-old took to Instagram after the incident to apologize for his behavior.

“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing,” he wrote.

“Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.

“I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship.”

The 1-0 defeat against the Toffees kept United at seventh place on the Premier League table. The Red Devils went six points behind Tottenham, who claimed the fourth spot last week.

United’s decreasing chances of playing in the next season’s Champions League could potentially affect Ronaldo’s decision on his future. Rumors around the Portuguese star’s possible departure are already surfacing media, with Paris Saint-Germain being Ronaldo’s main suitor.
