The Reds closed the gap to Manchester City on top of the league table to one point after beating Arsenal.
Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-0 in a crunch Premier League battle on Wednesday. Goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino saw the Reds bag their ninth league win a row as they continue chasing Manchester City on top of the table.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side now sitting only a point away from the league leaders, the Reds legend Jaimie Carragher believes they can win the title race in the coming weeks.
“This is the first time I’ve ever felt Liverpool can win the league at any time this season,” he told Sky Sports.
“I’ve always said City. That Chelsea game, 2-2, when Liverpool after that game found themselves 11 points behind Manchester City β and Graeme [Souness] in the studio said Liverpool were still in this race β I thought it was well done.”
He added: “Man City aren’t in bad form or losing lots of games or dropping lots of points. Because these teams are so good now, just drawing a game feels like a loss,” he added.
“We are watching two of the best teams we have ever seen in the Premier League and a draw is a defeat now. A draw now feels like the end of the world because you’re just expecting these teams to just win.
“I just feel like the signing of [Luis] Diaz, not just as an individual but what he’s done to Liverpool. What Liverpool brought off the bench [against Arsenal] is much better than the year they won the Champions League [2018-19] and the year they won the league [2019-20].”
What’s next for Liverpool and City?
Premier League fans must wait until after the international break to see the rest of the exciting title race. Before that, however, Liverpool and City will face their opponents in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The Citizens will meet Southampton on Sunday while Liverpool battle it out against Nottingham Forest on the same day.
