The Gunners go into Wednesday’s Premier League match against Liverpool chasing a sixth win in a row.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has credited his side’s improved form down to an increase in confidence and a better understanding in the squad.

Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Leicester City was Arsenal’s fifth consecutive win. It was the first time they had strung together as many wins in the Premier League since the end of last season. In doing so, they reclaimed fourth in the standings ahead of the match against second-placed Liverpool on Wednesday.

‘Everything clicks better and quicker’

Speaking to reporters at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Arteta even agreed that Arsenal are enjoying their best spell since he took over in late 2019.

“I think with the level of consistency throughout the game and throughout a run of games, I would say yes,” said the Gunners boss.

“We are playing better, we have an understanding of what we want. We have the right level of confidence, belief and understanding with each other and everything clicks better and quicker.

“Every week is a test in the Premier League and a very different one, and the challenges that you face in those games are completely different, but tomorrow certainly is a team that dominates every aspect of the game, so when that happens you have to be at your best.”

How can Arsenal beat Liverpool?

Manchester City are the only team to beat the north London side in 2022 so far across seven Premier League games.

Back then, on New Year’s Day, Bukayo Saka fired Arsenal ahead after a dominant start. But Gabriel’s two yellow cards, on either side of Gabriel Martinelli striking the bar, left the Gunners down to 10-men. The dismissal changed the tide of the match altogether. Riyad Mahrez and Rodri’s injury-time winner in the second-half later sealed City a narrow 2-1 win at the Emirates.

“The reason we didn’t get that result against City was that we didn’t dominate every single aspect of the game,” said Arteta, who was absent from that match due to COVID-19.

“The moment that you open the door, you know you will be punished. Tomorrow [Wednesday] we are going to have to play at least at that level, or better and control every single scenario.”

At the time of writing, however, Arsenal enter the clash with Liverpool as the underdogs. Bet365 has them priced at 3.50 to beat Liverpool, which suggests they have a 29% chance of claiming all three points at home.
