Manchester United made just £50m from selling homegrown talent while Chelsea have made the most of any Premier League side.
A new study has revealed that Manchester United made just £50m from selling homegrown talent since 2015, ranking them only eighth on the list of Premier League clubs.
According to CIES Football Observatory, Sam Johnstone’s transfer to West Brom in 2016 for £6.5m was the Red Devils’ most expensive departure to date.
Chelsea have made the most of any Premier League clubs, making £175m, while Portuguese giants Benfica have made the most worldwide – £316m – with one-third of their sales coming from the transfer of Joao Felix to Atletico Madrid in 2019.
Along with Felix’s £113m sale, Benfica have also sold Ruben Dias and Renato Sanches for large sums in the last seven years.
Real Madrid are second on the list with £275m following Alvaro Morata’s departure from the club in 2017 to Chelsea for £60m.
Monaco is third on the list, with two-thirds of the Ligue 1 club’s revenue coming from the sale of Kylian Mbappe to Paris Saint-Germain.
