After Russia launched a full-scale invasion in Ukraine, the location for the 2022 Champions League final has now changed.
The 2022 Champions League final will be in Paris instead of the Russian City of St. Petersburg, UEFA has confirmed.
Europe’s football governing body decided on Paris after an emergency meeting of its executive committee took place on Friday morning in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Originally scheduled for May 28 at St.Petersburg’s 68,000-seater Gazprom Arena, this year’s Champions League final will instead go ahead at the Stade de France in St Denis, Paris, on the same date.
“UEFA wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to French president Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to have European club football’s most prestigious game moved to France at a time of unparalleled crisis,” read a statement from UEFA.

What will happen to the Russian & Ukrainian clubs?
Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale military invasion of neighboring nation Ukraine on Thursday.
The escalating situation has caused Ukraine’s domestic football league to be suspended, while the Russian and Ukrainian national teams’ participation in the FIFA World Cup play-off matches next month is in doubt.
For UEFA competitions, however, Russian and Ukrainian clubs can compete but must play all their home games at a neutral venue.
UEFA added: “At today’s meeting, the UEFA Executive Committee also decided that Russian and Ukrainian clubs and national teams competing in UEFA competitions will be required to play their home matches at neutral venues until further notice.”
FIFA, meanwhile, has said it will continue to monitor the situation.
