The Norwegian star will not be able to help his side in their crucial Europa League clash at Ibrox.
Borussia Dortmund will face Rangers in the second leg of their Europa League playoff on Thursday. The Black and Yellows suffered a surprising 4-2 home defeat in the first leg.
Marco Rose’s side hoped to have Erling Haaland back for the second leg. However, according to Kicker, the Norwegian remains out of Dortmund’s squad for the upcoming match.
Haaland’s absence will be a major blow to Dortmund, who saw Giovanni Reyna also suffering an injury this week. Reyna’s injury came in Dortmund’s 6-0 crushing of Borussia Monchengladbach this week, which revived their fans’ hopes for a comeback at Ibrox.
Since picking up a muscle injury last month, Haaland has been out of action for the German heavyweights. The Norwegian has returned to team training in recent days. However, he is still not ready to return to his side’s squad.
How are Dortmund’s chances for a comeback?
Dortmund go into the upcoming game being 4-2 down on aggregate. However, their 6-0 win over Gladbach proved they are ready to fight back for their spot in the Europa League against the Gers.
Even without Haaland and Reyna, Dortmund still have plenty of top-class players upfront. The recent performances of Marco Reus would most likely require the Scottish side to man-mark him intensively on Thursday.
