The Magpies have completed their first signing under the Saudi Arabia-backed ownership.
Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee.
The England international completed a medical on Wednesday in the North East, before putting pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal. He will the No. 15 jersey, which Jamal Lewis held until last season.
Newcastle and Atletico agreed on a transfer fee on Tuesday, reportedly worth £12 million (€14m) plus add-ons.
Atletico hoped Trippier would stay in Spain. However, Newcastle’s interest and the prospect of reuniting with former Burnley boss Eddie Howe, swayed the full-back into a Premier League return.
I’m so happy to be joining Newcastle. Everyone knows the fans are unbelievably passionate and I will give my absolute all for them. I can’t wait to get to work 💪🏼

Tripper explains his decision to join the club
“I’m delighted to be joining this fantastic club,” said Tripper in a club statement. “I really enjoyed my time in Madrid, but when I became aware of interest from Newcastle United, and having worked with Eddie Howe before, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
“I’m aware there is a lot of work ahead of us but I know the demands of Premier League well and I know what an amazing club this is with very talented players. I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to step out at St. James’ Park as a Newcastle player.”
Who could Newcastle sign next?
Newcastle’s new owners reportedly plan to sign at least three more players in January to bolster their chances of survival. They are currently second-bottom in the Premier League table, two points outside the safety zone.
Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is a target, although the Canaries can extend his deal by a further year.
Sevilla defender Diego Carlos has recently emerged as another potential target for a fee in the region of £35 million.
Reports have also linked Lille defender Sven Botman, Everton full-back Lucas Digne, and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to St. James’ Park.
