The Portuguese legend has lent his support towards raising funds for La Palma in its hour of need.

Cristiano Ronaldo has donated a signed CR7 Portugal shirt for auction to help raise funds for victims of the La Palma volcano eruption.

The 36-year-old also wrote a message of solidarity on the shirt to those impacted in the Canary Islands, which read: “Not even the force of a volcano will be able to with La Palma. All my support for the beautiful island.”

The auction for Ronaldo’s shirt begins on December 24 and lasts for 10 days. The money raised from the sale will go straight to the victims of the ‘Cumbre Vieja’ volcano disaster.

rectArquitectos, an architectural business from La Palma, will host the auction. The organization has said it will release more information about the event on Facebook and its other social media channels.

Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption: What’s the latest?

The volcanic eruption in La Palma began on September 19 and has caused around 7,000 people to evacuate their homes, as well as destroy over 3,000 buildings – including schools and hundreds of homes.

Since December 13, however, the three-month long eruption has gone silent, leaving locals hopeful the volcano has finally stopped erupting.

The Spanish government has declared the island a disaster zone but has promised to support those affected by the volcanic activity financially.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, could report back to action for Manchester United on December 27 after a Premier League meeting on Monday.
