Supercomputer makes Premier League title shock with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham also rans

We’ve not reached the halfway stage of the Premier League season, but the title race predictions are coming through thick and fast.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have produced a dazzling brand of football, and they have also been more resolute defensively. Liverpool, meanwhile, have gone about their business more quietly, although one of their highlights of the campaign to date was a 4-0 win at home to Arsenal in November. Whereas Manchester City looked to have gone through the motions under Pep Guardiola at times, but the Spaniard is a serial winner, and he knows what it takes to deliver success.

But now a Supercomputer predictor controlled by FiveThirtyEight which specialises in stats and simulations, has thrown up some incredible results, which seem scarcely believable. They have drawn up a predicted table of the final standings in May, and they reckon City will end up champions, amassing 85 points.

Liverpool are expected to be pipped to the post, while Chelsea have been tipped to finish third with 82 points. The simulated table shows West Ham will finish in the top four.

And even more surprisingly, Manchester United will miss out on the Champions League, as they seek to get used to life post-Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

This looks like being one of the most dramatic Premier League seasons in recent memory, and it could well be a three-horse title race.

Of course, the Premier League is one of the most competitive in the world, and that is perhaps judged on the fact that two English sides reached the Champions League fans last season.
