Chelsea have been in search of a defender for a while now and Fenerbahce star fits the overall plan of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

Over the recent weeks, Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai has been linked with a big move to Chelsea and Hungary boss Marco Rossi claims that a January deal has been agreed upon by the two parties.

The 23-year-old saw his career shift to Turkey in the winter transfer of 2021. And is on the verge of a much bigger jump to the Premier League just after 12 months.

Rossi has been working with Szalai with the national team. And he is not shocked that the Blues wish to sign the gifted Hungarian centre-back.

When asked whether any of the Hungary players would rack a career in Serie A, the Italian coach told Calciomercato of Szalai.

He said: “It’s hard to name just one player. But right now I see very well Attila Szalai, who plays for Fenerbahce. But I think he is joining Chelsea.”

“Clearly, he has been followed by important clubs in Spain, but apparently his move to Chelsea is a done deal. He would be a great player also for Italian football.”

Why does Chelsea need the Hungarian?

It is known that Antonio Rudiger is closing down towards becoming a free agent in 2022 at Stamford Bridge. Moreover, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are also running in the last phase of their respective deals.

Therefore, it is vital that Thomas Tuchel searches for another suitable defender. Accordingly, the German boss has been eyeing the market for a while now.

In fact, another major target for Chelsea has been Sevilla star Jules Kounde, with the Frenchman boasting immense strength in his game.
