Marco Verratti will miss three more PSG games, with his recovery process taking longer than expected.
PSG were hoping to have Marco Veratti back for their crucial Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday. He made it to the squad but remained on the bench as PSG suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Citizens.
According to L’Equipe, Verratti has suffered a new muscle injury in the PSG training on Tuesday. The Italian star has a lesion to the quadriceps, which will keep him out for three weeks.
The 29-year-old has missed most of the current season due to fitness problems. He has featured in eight matches for PSG this season, six in Ligue 1 and two in the Champions League.
The absence of Verratti has hurt both PSG and Italy national team in their recent games. The player is key to midfield duties at both sides, maintaining the balance between their defensive and offensive work.
PSG failed to leapfrog Man City in the group stage of the Champions League and will qualify as the second team. Meanwhile, Italy missed the chance to secure automatic qualification to the next year’s World Cup. The Azzurri will hope to have Verratti back for their playoff games.
The Italy star might have the chance to make his return in his side’s game against Club Brugge on December 7. Before that, the Parisians must face Saint Etienne, Nice and Lens in their next league matches.
