Solskjaer likely to continue as Manchester United manager

Despite the mounting pressure over at Old Trafford, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears set to live on for another day at Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly set to continue as Manchester United manager for the time being at least.

A painful 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend sparked a change at Old Trafford. The loss shook the club board’s faith in Solskjaer, prompting a review on the Norwegian’s position. At the time of writing, there is still no outright clarity on if United will change manager in the long run.

According to Sky Sports, Solskjaer is to remain in charge for now. The 48-year-old will be at the club’s Carrington training base on Tuesday. He plans to prepare the team for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham in the Premier League.

The British sports network claims ‘there is no suggestion from inside the club that Solskjaer’s job is under threat at this point’.

That said, it acknowledges that everyone at United is bitterly disappointed about the recent results. The main focus, though, is on turning things around.

The Athletic has added that United board members have told Solskjaer that his job is ‘safe for now’, while Fabrizio Romano says the main part of the board – which includes Sir Alex Ferguson – wants to give him another chance.

However, given that several players are losing faith in the manager and his staff, it appears Solskjaer is by no means off the hook yet – especially if he wishes to continue long-term.

Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is the favorite to take charge at Old Trafford if United decide to change coaches.
