Solskjaer addresses his future as Manchester United manager

The Red Devils suffered one of the darkest days in their history against Liverpool, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer under even more pressure.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he has ‘come too far to give up’ despite suffering his darkest day as Manchester United manager.

The Norwegian could only look on in horror as Liverpool thrashed his side 5-0 at Old Trafford. Mohamed Salah bagged a hat-trick in the game, while Naby Keita and Diogo Jota were also on target. It was United’s worst home defeat to their rivals since October 1895 – where they lost 7-1 – and left their Premier League title hopes in tatters.

In fact, the Red Devils have lost five of their last nine games across all competitions.

And with coaches like Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane available, the pressure is mounting for Solskjaer.

“I have come too far to give up. I am not built that way,” he told BBC about his future.

“The feeling we have had is we were getting where we wanted to be, but in the last few weeks results haven’t come and we have hit a brick wall. We have conceded too many easy goals, and that is a concern.

“This is the lowest I have been but I accept the responsibility, that is mine and mine going forward.”

Solskjaer later added: “I do believe in myself. I do believe I am getting close to what I want with the club. The results lately haven’t been good enough. Hands up, that brings doubt in anyone’s mind, but I have to keep strong and I do believe in what we have been doing.”

United, who are in seventh-place in the Premier League, return to action next Saturday for a trip to Tottenham.
