Salah becomes highest-scoring African player in Premier League

The Egyptian was a chief contributor to Manchester United’s demise on Sunday, rewriting record books in the process.

Mohamed Salah is no stranger to breaking records, and he broke one in Liverpool’s Premier League match against Manchester United.

Salah stole the spotlight as he had a hand in four goals in Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of their old rivals at Old Trafford, scoring thrice and setting one up.

The 29-year-old forward took his tally up to 107 goals in the Premier League with his hat-trick, overtaking the great Didier Drogba as the all-time top-scoring African player in the league.

Drogba netted 104 times in the English top-flight during his overall nine years at Chelsea, scoring a century of goals in his first stint between 2004 and 2012 and four in his second one in 2014–2015.

The former Ivory Coast international required over 250 matches to reach the milestone whereas it took the Egyptian in just 167 Premier League matches.

Salah, whose Liverpool future has been up in the air lately, has been in sensational form this season. He has now been involved in an impressive 17 goals in just 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring 12 and setting up another 5.
